“Tock the Gnome” bonus – Wishful Wedding

wishfulwedding_tockthegnome

Happy early Valentine’s, everyone ❤

Since my previous promotion is ending this evening, I figured I would share this on it’s own.

Featuring Arella and Strahl of my lovely “Tock the Gnome,” in a distinctly non-canon moment (I am mean and never let them be happy). I did this as a self care piece recently and I am very pleased with how it turned out.

I hope you’re all having a great week and look forward to a great day on Thursday, whether you’re celebrating it with a sweetheart or just taking good care of yourself!

Reminders – “Tock the Gnome” is available to read for free both here and on Patreon (where there is much bonus art, story and world-building to boot), so please do check it it out if you haven’t yet! ~ Also, call for artists is still open for “Prints for Pam-a-Lamb.” ~ And prints of my own work, comic books, coloring books and needlefelted OOAK dolls are available anytime on Etsy.

Commission – “Maarten the Gnome meets Tock the Gnome at Faerie Festival!”

maartenmeetstock_wm

Drawn for a dear friend and inspired by our own meeting at New York Faerie Fest last year!

This was honestly SO fun to do. In addition to trying to get the details of each of our characters right (of course), I tried to incorporate the feeling of the festival itself, with little nods to different parts of the festival grounds – and little peeks of other faerie folk enjoying the space! Between that, the stark linework and the banner at the bottom, I hoped to evoke the feeling of old storybook illustrations.

More on Tock available here, and more on Maarten hopefully soon! He has many stories planned, and I can’t wait to see where he goes with them.

~

“Tock the Gnome: The Rescue Quest” is about a Gnome woman named Tock, who lives in a Steampunk culture in a high fantasy world. Driven by a Fairy Tale about a trapped Elven princess on a floating island, she convinces her friend Bumble – an airship pilot – to join her quest to rescue her. They hire extra firepower from unfamiliar lands, and together they seek the island and the princess. But what they seek may not be quite what they expected…

NOTE: Will contain lesbian romance, size-positivity, Faerie, spiritual magic, conundrums and tomfoolery.

Art show January 2019 – “Gnomes are Faeries too!”

As previously mentioned and advertised

“Gnomes are Faeries too!” by Rachel Terwilliger

A showcase of Gnomish Faerie exploration by local fantasy/Faerie comic artist & illustrator Rachel Terwilliger (@rachelillustrates on Instagram, Facebook and deviantArt).

Very often the mainstream representation of faerie folk shows us only small, winged creatures who focus on flower care and the kinder aspects of the unseen. While these are valid as any, most other aspects of Faerie are treated as separate from that magical nature – including Gnomes! This work seeks to recognize that nature in these woodland folk and inspire others to do the same.

Featuring Gnomes of several Faerie realms, including Rachel’s steampunk/fantasy graphic novel called “Tock the Gnome” (readable in-progress at tockthegnome.com). Her other recent projects include design work for The Cherry Arts’ “The Snow Queen” 2016-2018 and a series of book covers for H.M. Barone’s “The Zoey Jane Files.” Prints of her work and original pieces are for sale at rachelillustrates.etsy.com.

That said, the reception was this past Friday evening, and it was lovely!

Many thanks to the Hilton Garden Inn Ithaca NY for hosting me, and to everyone who stopped by! I hope you all enjoyed seeing Faerie through my eyes and heart. Getting to do a show focused entirely on Gnomes feels very special to me, and I certainly hope that you all find inspiration in it – to look closer, to try and see the hidden world that’s all around us.

To believe 🙂

The work itself was very fun to put together (and brought to my awareness how very Gnomish my work is in general, I would say 80%, haha). Narrowing down which pieces to newly include was an interesting challenge, too – several Gnomevember pieces from this year and last year got to be featured, and paired with Gnome Wings that matched best thematically (and color-wise). That presentation – putting them together encircled with pebbles – was a new, very faerie-inspired thought, and I am very glad for it.

I hung the show very low again, as I did the first time I showed in this space – part of that is because I myself am so short and my work is so small, but I also hope it helps taller folk to think to look lower – to see what’s below, those small magics hidden closer to the earth. Like Gnomes themselves!

The glass case, of course, is an exception to this idea, as is the wall featuring my Gnomish Persephone, but that couldn’t be helped. Though, as She demanded a wall to Herself, I figure it can’t hurt to have Her raised higher!  And I do like that you can see up through the layers inside the case, thanks to the glass shelving – maybe that will help people think of things in a Gnome’s-eye-view perspective? 😀

I haven’t had a gallery show since last March, so it feels very, very nice to be featured like this again. If you’re in the Ithaca area, please come through and take a look! The walls will be graced with my Gnomish work until the end of this month.

dElfcember day 31, “Your sElf” (challenge complete!!)

IMG_20181231_123915_462

….a prompt to which I say that I don’t exist in the “Tock the Gnome” world (that I’ve been mostly focusing on) but Mariatu certainly does!

She’s been a part of the story since before Tock herself even existed, and certainly stands more for me than any other character (and Misu, for my Wife 💙). She stands for much of who I thought I wanted to be when I created her as a teenager, and much of who I do want to be in the world now. She’s evolved with me, and for that I am very grateful.

So, here she is, in my stead.

The Gnome statue she’s holding is based on the Uppsala Gnome from the books by Rien Poortvliet and Wil Hyugen, in honor of my Gnomishness (even though dear Mariatu ended up Elven! Which, honestly, just shows how far back she goes – but that full story is for another time).

Thanks for sticking with me for another challenge, everyone. Absolutely taking a break from these now. And I hope everyone has a safe, smooth end to 2018, with a blessed and bright start to 2019!

Prompt list from @monicamarinhoart.

Sunday Gnomedays 12-30-18, dElfcember days 27, 28, 29 and 30

More catchup and Gnomish-Elven connection ❤ (And only one more left for this challenge, after this!)

IMG_20181230_091413_174

Sunday Gnomedays 12-30-18/dElfcember day 30, “Bonds”

Specifically, bonds of friendship.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my own friendships over the last couple of days, and though I don’t always keep in touch very well, I appreciate every single person I am able to call friend – be it a friendship in person, or a bond that was created over fangirling and artwork online.

Thank you, every one of you, for being here for me.

Featuring Tock, of my “Tock the Gnome,” and Luke from my friend DrMistyTang‘s amazing comic “Grey Eyes.”

(Couldn’t not draw one of her “elves” for this challenge, too!)

Day 27, “Dobby”

From “Harry Potter,” of course, loving his Free Elf self!

IMG_20181228_091513_532

Day 28, “Unicorn”

This one was really calming to draw 🙂

Also, this one does still count for “Tock the Gnome” world-building – there are certainly Unicorns in Tock’s world….I just haven’t figured out the context yet. Any further information will likely show up on Patreon, if you’re interested.

Day 29, “Mead”

Despite the very specific prompt, as mead is made from honey, it got me thinking about bees instead. Angry ones, by the way my day was going 🐝😅🐝💥

Prompt list from @monicamarinhoart.
