TGnIF 6-2-23 – Pike πŸ’™

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

And Happy JuneFae!! πŸ’Ÿ

As you can see above – it’s also Fanart Friday, wiiiiiith the inevitability and glory of my Wife and I having finally gotten into “Critical Role.” As you might imagine, I have LOTS of thoughts and feelings about one Pike Trickfoot (Gnome cleric of Sarenrae) and one Scanlan Shorthalt (Gnome bard of impressive and sometimes problematic self-importance).

As someone who played Gnome clerics and Gnome bards almost exclusively back when I got to play DnD myself…… *gestures wildly, because words are not enough*

So! With it being the month of the fae, as well – all of June’s TGnIF’s will be dedicated to these two in the Truth of Gnomish resonance, even if Faerie itself is treated much differently in many Dungeons & Dragons settings. Gnomes are always still fae, to me.

And we’re starting with Pike, because I love her so. Thank you Ashley Johnson for letting us get to know her!

(Also, NO SPOILERS. We are only on episode 20 and have not started the animated series yet.)

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

With belated posting of mother’s day art drawn for my own Mama as a gift. Hope all parentals of the feminine-presenting variety had a lovely day, and are having another lovely one, now πŸ₯°

Also with ranunculus flowers, meaning “You are radiant with charms.”

(Also also, somewhere along the line I fell out of posting the gift art I do πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Leaning in the direction of changing that.)

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

Featuring a surface-town Mayor, of the Gnomes of “Tock the Gnome.” This was drawn under slight self-imposed duress, with life still being A Lot, BUT I’m glad I pushed forward on it because there are at least three really interesting things happening here that will be discussed in next week’s World Building Wednesday, if all goes to plan.

(I am rubbing my hands together and chuckling in a mildly devious manner.)

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

It has been an intense week, dear followers. But it’s not over – “it” meaning “all.” You’re still here. I’m still here. It is not too late.

(Also, I considered rescanning this because of the shadow in the upper corner, near the tip of her hat and the energy there. BUT because of erasing and reworking the pose, there is similar shadowyness around one of her hands, so now I think that means something about calling that energy down, for action. So, with the above in mind, I’m keeping it.)

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

Also drawn while coming out of the weird art block/funk I was in earlier this month *knock on wood, gesturing at recent much better progress!! Initiating happy dance of gratitude, too*

Featuring buckeye moths, as inspired by some lovely earrings I have from my amazing Wife. Moths stand for transformation, vulnerability, shadows and symbolic death.

So…. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

TGnIF 4-14-23 – “Moonlight Meet”

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!! (And Flashback Friday! Double plus bonus again!)

Another commission for the lovely Shannon (over on Instagram) drawn for her recently engaged daughter and soon-to-be daughter-in-law πŸ’•πŸ’• Again – Gnomes and sapphic and schmoop? Yes please! Congratulations to the lovely couple, it was a joy to draw this for you.

(Also, thanks for the excuse to draw the moon! I love drawing the moon, and I always forget that I do.)

This piece protected from AI art theft by Glaze, btw. Thank you everyone involved in the project 🌼

TGnIF 4-7-23 – “Wise”

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!!

Tock and Queen Arella, of my comic “Tock the Gnome.” Called “Wise” in terms of this definition – “respondingΒ sensiblyΒ orΒ shrewdlyΒ to a particular situation.”

I am pushing through recent art block stuff (as mentioned on my Instagram last week) but everything is still….. a lot. It seems that part of the blockage came from how much I am still struggling with my complete rage and hopelessness over the AI Art situation (which I spoke about in better detail here). Another reminder: if you are using AI art apps, even if its just “for fun” or just for avatars or personal use, you are participating in art theft. You are saying it is okay that this is happening to artists, including artists that you know.

I am doing what I can to move forward and still believe in my work, despite the violation of such theft and how much mainstream people don’t seem to care, which just…. hurts.

So, then.

As an artist, faced with all this – still – what makes it worth it?

I feel like I don’t have an easy answer to that right now. Except to say that this piece, right here? This demanded to be drawn, even though I was hurtling head-first into an art block wall without even realizing it. There is still something in my spirit that screams to be let out, no matter what is going on around me. No matter who notices, or doesn’t notice. No matter who might take harmful advantage of me sharing my work online.

And there ARE people who care. People who are fighting SO hard to protect artists (shoutout to the Glaze team again! Link is below. And so much love and gratitude to people involved in lawsuits against AI companies). There are people spreading the word about the issue, or just refusing to support/participate in AI art because it is wrong.

And there are people, still, who do actively benefit – spirit-wise – from my work. From just seeing it, and reach out in support (whether via my Patreon, or by likes and comments and legitimate shares where they see it posted).

THAT is why I do it. The goal remains true, and remains important, no matter who is trying to steal it, in what ways, or for what reason. That’s THEIR crud, not mine, and I still need to show up for my service to the fae. Hands down. Always always always.

So, I’m glad to have finished this. And I’m glad to be pushing through the art block. And I’m grateful that all hope is not lost, even in the hurt.

TGnIF 3-31-23 – “Birthday Beau”

Thank Gnome it’s Friday!! (And Flashback Friday! Double plus bonus!)

A commission for the lovely Shannon (over on Instagram) drawn a couple years ago now, of her and her guy, for his birthday. Steampunk and Gnomes and schmoop? Yes please!

(The daisies and the bleeding hearts were included per her design, but in flower language, they mean “joy, cheerfulness” and “unconditional love.” And of course, the rose between them is self-explanatory!!)
