From “The Power of the Dark Crystal,” which is easily one of the best comics I’ve read in a long long time.

If I had all the time I wanted for fanart, this would definitely be getting finished up with ink and color. But as it is, I do really enjoy the pencils (and color editing to make it brown gave it a nice effect, I think).

Saluna and Chal, Jen and Kira, and Kensho and Thurma.

Thank you, everyone who’s worked on “The Dark Crystal,” for such beautiful stories and such worthy and inspiring loves. I adore the world of Thra so much and I feel like I learn more and more with each new piece of its history we get to see!

And again, if you haven’t checked out “The Power of the Dark Crystal,” please do! Click here for the Comixology page, or head over to your local comic shop! Go go!

As previously posted looooooong ago in WIP form:

Pencil work, "Eurydice in Hades," personal piece

This was inspired by Emily Carding’s “Faery Craft”– specifically the section on Faery Zodiac. I fall in the “dryad” section, so of course the tale of Eurydice sparked wonder in me – I’d heard it before, of course, but this time I wondered what her existence is like AFTER Orpheus loses her again. She’s still in the Underworld, after all, and I can’t imagine that a strong, fae woman such as herself would just wait around until her husband shows back up.

Since my gnosis of Persephone includes Her care for damaged, hurting souls – Sketch – Persephone and the Dark Heart – I imagine that after her “rescue” is unsuccessful, Eurydice finds comfort in the care of Persephone, having to mourn her loss of life again, but also wanting to move on. And through that, she finds new purpose in however a creature of the trees would still be able to reach out to nature. Through roots, through growing, nurturing seeds in the darkness of the soil. And maybe through that, her beloved bard can still feel her presence too, and have faith that they WILL be reunited even if his desperate plan didn’t work out.

(Throwing my hat in for female autonomy AND True Love, as always ❤ )

I am very, very satisfied in my heart that this piece is finished. Not the least of which because I finally got to feature Persephone in Her “Queen of the Underworld” gown, and that this is another Faerie-devotional piece after not much time to devote to such things! I very much hope you enjoy it, too.

Thank you!

As you might have noticed before, I post a new Gnome drawing every Sunday – there have been a good handful of “Tock the Gnome”-related ones since I started, and this week we have another addition to that bunch.
More emotionally, though – I had an unexpected pang of missing my Gramma so much this morning. She passed away when I was a teenager, but I still think of her almost everyday and I often feel like she’s still with me. She was the best and I really hope that she would have liked my work, especially Tock’s story. And that she’s proud of me. I feel like she is, anyway ❤
So this is for the Gnomes, as always, but also for her.
A little bit more on Tock’s Grandma here and here.

Finding myself fighting my own negativity and abrasiveness today, and really really wanting Love to come in and take my weapons away.

(Also, this went through several different incarnations in my head before pencil hit paper, and I’m actually very surprised and happy with how it decided to be.)

Soooooo tomorrow is going to be a day of posting about my next show (YAY), so here’s this for today – one of two new pieces being featured in it, actually.

In a moment of needing to experience more of Dr. Jaclyn Weber’s world of Dwal (see here) I finally, FINALLY got around to reading her and GrimReapette‘s story “KINGS,” which takes place in part there.

And it is delicious.

Click here to start reading, and click here to start the illustrations! (They go together, so I definitely recommend keeping the two tabs open and reading/viewing them accordingly!)

Many thanks once again to both these lovely ladies for such a wonderful tale of love and adventure. And please check out their work, they are as fabulous on their own as this story shows they are together.

Some quick sketching work from yesterday (this probably took me about half an hour, in between googling for reference images. Sooooo many little details!). I was having trouble getting working, and so, Sailor Moon fanart to the rescue – Crystal Tokyo style!

I imagine Usagi takes advantage of any and all surprise-glomping opportunities, especially where her Mamo-chan is concerned, no matter how queenly she’s supposed to be ❤

Work on “Tock the Gnome,” commissions and show prep resuming as you read this.

The man himself 😀

Wonder who he’s wishing for under that mistletoe? Hint – I am predictable.

(And his ugly sweater says “Free Rudolph,” by the way!)
