This isn’t exactly what I’d hoped it would be, with my creativity levels being impacted by loss and grief and world conditions – BUT, this weekend something monumental happened in the world of all-ages animated television (and something else in adult-oriented animated television too), so I wanted to do what I could to honor that amazingness.
💫💗 I’m so grateful that I got to see what happened happen in my lifetime. 💗💫
So, on that note, here are two sapphic “Tock the Gnome” style noblewomen being safely and lovely in love. And in case you missed it yesterday, a new page is available now too! Hope you enjoy it, and are this day (and all days) enjoying stories that reflect and empower who you are.
Happy Fanart Friday! Which means posting this finished illustration of these two lovely fae from “The Chronicles of Dru” 💕
Friends of mine (the Weber sisters) run this series, featuring illustrated adventure and romance stories with a very 80’s fantasy vibe, written and drawn by several different artists. As mentioned when I recently posted the pencilwork for this – in catching up on some of the series’ tales, I seem to have fallen into another ship. Very enthusiastically and ungracefully 😅
I have no idea if they’re gonna get together in the end, but at least for now, I’m imagining they’ll find happiness together.
Relatedly, I have also gotten to contribute to the world of Dru myself!! You can read it here, I hope you check it out and explore the rest of Dru as well!! It is such a fun, lighthearted series – definitely recommending it extra in these uncertain times. 🖤
The story has a much larger, gorgeous plot about an aggressively optimistic Dark Elf necromancer (Quinn herself) fighting super hard to bring to light the reality behind an awful plague that’s decimating the Elven population, aided by two amazing Orcs. Including Nashandra.
And I tried really, REALLY hard not to ship them. Because there’s way more going on in the story and there’s no guarantee these two will end up romantic, I promise I tried.
As it says on the tin ^^; This month has been insanely busy for me, so here’s a massive post about that – firstly, catching up on my Gnomish devotionals.
Sunday Gnomedays 6/16
Delayed by my vending at Salem NY Faerie Fest, which I will speak on below (and which went very well!). Inspired also by that day being Father’s Day, where I live – I imagine this Troll feels fatherly towards the Gnome woman he’s carrying, in the manner of the parents of Troll Maidens (from Wendy and Brian Froud’s “Trolls”). I hope any of you who celebrated had a lovely time together!
Sunday Gnomedays 6/23
Delayed in posting by the local Pride Block Party, hosted by Planned Parenthood ❤ It had been an awesome pride-filled weekend, but a very long one too, so I needed some Tock and Onna smooches (I hope any new “Tock the Gnome” readers from the block party are enjoying the story!).
Now as for how well both of those lovely delaying events went!
Prints of this piece are now available, with all proceeds going to the National LGBTQ Task Force, in awareness of all queer characters who have been silenced throughout the years of comics. Available now through May 31st only!
The Gnomes of Tock’s world begin this level of affection with bumping noses – which is also often done platonically between close friends and family members, buuuuuuut it means a little bit more between two people interested in each other 💕
Lucky for these two ladies their budding romance is between two people of similar class levels, so their story would be a relatively smooth one – more about class stratification issues with tomorrow’s prompt!
As I mentioned yesterday, I’d had a lot of trouble getting drawing again after the push of show prep and actually doing the festival itself. I did get working on the Tock WIP I posted, eventually, but what really got me drawing again is this.
Moral of the story: When in art-block, start drawing your OTP.
