Fanart Friday (late) – Luke and Mike

Belatedly, but here we are!

From this past Friday – a sketch I did recently for the amazing DrMistyTang of DeviantArt and Tumblr, of her leading guys, Luke and Mike, from her comic “Grey Eyes.”

Fanart Friday(ish) – Abe & Nuala

(Yes, belatedly, whoops.)

Got to finish up this little pencil drawing of “Hellboy II”s starcrossed lovers. My Wife and I rewatched it recently and I still very much wish they’d had a happy ending (to the point that I have a headcanon now of the forest returning Nuala to life upon the condition that she work to prevent her brother’s return. Perhaps someday I’ll get to write it).

(Also, moral of story: Sign me up for that Doomed Romance anytime.)

Sunday Gnomedays 7-15-18

Something unexpected this week – I actually had two other ideas in mind (Tock with her Goddess Carwen from “Tock the Gnome,” or more Gnomish Persephone love with Hades maaaaaaybe) but this ended up demanding finishing instead.

So. “Beren the Gnome.”

A little while ago I treated myself to a copy of “Beren & Luthien.” Lord of the Rings is one of my fandom passions, and I wanted to see how the amazing Alan Lee set about illustrating this delicious tale, and I must say I fell in love with it upon the first telling (there’s several different versions/evolutions of it in the book, and I love the first one so much that I haven’t even gotten through all of them yet).

Most importantly. And even though I know this is not what the great Tolkein meant …….originally, Beren’s people were Gnomes.

(That sound you hear is me shrieking in delight, still resonating from when I first read it months ago.)

Again, I know that was not the intention. In that first telling, he seems to have meant an Elf-like race of intelligence and wisdom, from “gnosis” …..but how could I have read that and NOT run with it?

So here’s Beren, the Gnome, and Luthien (who herself is quickly becoming my favorite LotR lady), with his “hat” above them (the story didn’t specifically mention these Gnomes wearing hats, but still) and the Silmaril that he is sent to steal for Luthien’s hand. The pawprints around them reference the hound Huan, who sheltered and aided them much.

I hope to draw more of them soon – I know, I know, but I am ~*absolutely*~ headcanoning Beren’s Gnomishness 😀 – but in the meantime I do highly recommend checking the book out. Tolkein’s world building is always inspiring.

JuneFae 2018 eighteen

(…..posting out of order, as I do not believe I posted seventeen here yet. Oops.)

Posting this in lieu of the other work I had mentioned was coming. Honestly, what I planned for this week – like the shop update, and other overdue postings – hasn’t matched up to my actual energy level at all.

So I’m adjusting. Hopefully I’ll meet those goals next week, but we’ll see. Thank you for your patience.

JuneFae 2018 twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen/Sunday Gnomedays (and bonus Tock WIP)

Sooooo with show prep for Salem NY Faerie Fest last week, I fell behind on this dear Faerie challenge (both in drawing AND posting. Sadface). Here are the last four, not counting yesterday’s Sabbat Sketch, which will be up later today ❤

Twelve. Drawn during the last push of show prep, in gratitude to everyone who helped make it possible for me! Much of my family supported me in terms of supplies, help setting up (and with the prep work itself, especially my Wife) and feeding and housing me, so this was drawn with love for them.

Thirteen. Dragon-fox fae for my aforementioned incredible Wife, who did SO much to make the show possible ❤

Fourteen. Something magic….

Fifteen/ Sunday Gnomedays 6-17-18. Drawn for my father, on Father’s Day! He’s not really a Gnome person, but since he helped me so much for Faerie Fest prep, he gets Gnomes anyway.

Shots of my booth and more info on the festival available here!

Getting myself drawing again now that it’s over has been a bit of a struggle, too – I was not being honest with myself about how burnt out I felt earlier in the week, so even though I had gotten back to work on page 86 of “Tock the Gnome,” no amount of my willpower was making any other work happen. Once I’d admitted that, though, it was easier to start sketching again. Which led to this WIP:

(on a Pride piece for Tock, that is) and then also to proper JuneFae catchup. Which will include the Sabbat Sketch for Litha later, and another JuneFae piece later today too!

Thank you for your patience, everyone, I hope you enjoy these catchup posts and what I’ve shared about the festival so far ❤
