Sunday Gnomedays 8-9-20

IMG_20200808_182640_365

(August is already starting to disappear what the effffff….)

On that note, though, August is my birthday month – and my amazing Wife has instigated a marathon of “The Hobbit” trilogy, to be followed by “Tolkien,” as an early birthday present 💃💃💃💕👏

…..so, I don’t wanna say that this more traditional-Gnomish, slightly off-putting drawing of Tock the Gnome is influenced by that marathon on purpose. Buuuuuuut here we are.

Sunday Gnomedays 8-2-20

sundaygnomedays080220_wm

Time again (and Blessed Lammas to anyone celebrating!) 🌾🌞🌾

I actually didn’t realize the timing of this post, with the holiday, but I feel like it fits – from The Goddess and the Green Man, “It is now high summer and the union of Sun and Earth, of God and Goddess, has produced the First Harvest…. The word ‘Lammas’ is derived from ‘loaf mass’ and is indicative of how central and honoured is the first grain and the first loaf of the harvesting cycle…. August was considered an auspicious month for handfastings and weddings…. But underlying this is the knowledge that the bounty and energy of Lugh, of the Sun, is now beginning to wane. It is a time of change and shift. Active growth is slowing down and the darker days of winter and reflection are beckoning…”

So! I had already imagined that these two were at their wedding to each other ( ❤ ), and despite the lack of grain in the image, let us imagine that it is Harvest-time and their union is providing a bit of hope and Light in the face of the darkness to come.

If you celebrate, however you celebrate, may you have a bright, bountiful day!

Fanart Friday – “Lore Olympus,” Kaleidoscope

Posting this, today of all days, because “Lore Olympus” returns this weekend and I 👏 am 👏 PSYCHED 👏💕

As for the art, I was really struck by the circumstances leading up to/surrounding that intense, impactful, perfect first kiss, and how well it resonates from this line from their first meeting.

Below the cut, also, is some fun from Lore Olympians’ read through, which they hosted during the hiatus of the last couple of months. I didn’t submit my answers to all the discussion questions each week, as I am a bit…… verbose, BUT I had a lot of fun participating and learned a lot from diving deeper into the story building of this wonderful series! If you want to see what I thought (i. e. the perspective of a spastic, Pagan queer fangirl), scroll down 🖤

And if “Lore Olympus” is not your style but you still love These Chthonic Gods, may I recommend two other Hades and Persephone works by two dear friends of mine!

Li Österberg, a-gnosis on deviantArt and Tumblr, has drawn a plethora of Greek mythology comics, reaching far back into the lore in a deliciously rich and earthy way! Her Hades and Persephone have a much different vibe from LO – Hades is still quiet and unassuming, those qualities pulled out even more in the most charming of ways, and her Persephone is a powerhouse, still stifled by her upbringing but wholly yearning for her inner darkness in a way that reaches back to the most primordial earth goddesses. You can read about their first meeting in her series “The Family Party” and about their developing relationship in “Destroyer of Light” and “Anthesteria.”

(By the way, I have been blessed by her with Tock fanart before!)

And Constanza Gomez Zara, coloricioso on Instagram, deviantArt and Tumblr, creates a gorgeous, rich and flowing narrative of Hades and Persephone’s story, also drawing deeper from Greek mythology and what came before. Her imagery often focuses on the sensuality and wealth of their relationship, and her take on Persephone is unlike any I’ve ever seen. They also have a different vibe than LO’s version – they resonate with the confidence and strength of their royal relationship in a way that I hope LO achieves in the end! You can see her illustrations of them by clicking on the links above to her sites, check out her story “Persephone – Queen of Hades” in written form here and in comic form on Webtoon!

Both of these incredible creators also bring body positivity to their versions of the tale in a big way, and an emotional depth that is unparalleled and necessary for the retelling of this beautiful myth! I hope you go check them out and show them both ALL the love.

(I am also hoping to do pieces similar to this one of their Hades and Persephones, and my own!! Planning for that starts today, but its gonna take a while. You can see more of my version of Hades and Persephone here, too. Surprise, they’re Gnomes!)

And if you’re still curious about my LO thoughts, look below! Fingers crossed for all of us keeping our cool about whatever season 2’s beginning brings us, in the coming days 🦋

Sunday Gnomedays 7-12-20

regencyAU_sundaygnomedays71220_wm

Time again, with “Tock the Gnome” Regency-AU-style 🌷

I’ve been reading Georgette Heyer’s “Charity Girl” for some self care lately, and while my hopes for queer romance in it are sure to be dashed, it is very fun, and I ended up drawing this (quite self-indulgently after the challenge of going back to my day job). So, very non-canon, but hope it charms you anyway!

And for these two loves in the canon setting of the comic, check out my Patreon (also free to read on Webtoon, deviantArt, Facebook, here on WordPress and on ComicFury).

Sunday Gnomedays 7-5-20

sundaygnomedays7520_boardinghouselandlady_wm

Time again ⚙ With a “Tock the Gnome” style Gnomish Boarding House landlady, in honor/attempted embracement of the fact that I started back at my day job recently (hospitality). While my creative energy has indeed been impacted, I am grateful for the opportunities it affords me to help people and make their visit to the area I live (which is magic) more enjoyable, or at least smoother.

From thegildedhour.com :

“From Gamber’s excellent historical study:

[,,,]  if the nineteenth century was the golden age of the bourgeois home, it was also the age of the boarding house. In cities and many towns, people of all classes were at least as likely to live in boarding houses as in homes. What historians call the market revolution, a series of related developments that included the expansion of commercial agriculture, the beginnings of industrialization, the emergence of a working class dependent on wages, the rise of a salaried white-collar middle class, and massive urban growth, could never have been accomplished without boardinghouses and the labor of those who kept them. (Gamber)”

This is also Tock-themed specifically because this week’s Webtoon update will be bonus-art based, due to the fact that I’ve caught up to the current pages there! She will serve as a header image for that explanation (and I dearly hope that my readers there are as patient as those on my other platforms, including this one).

And don’t worry, she’s a kindly landlady who runs a very decent, well-kept Boarding House.
